YouTubing Your Way Through Team Training

The quick, simple and smart way to train your team

Video is like a triple whammy of communication. It combines words, sound and moving pictures, sharing a lot of information in a short time, making it a great resource for training your team.

“Sounds too hard and time consuming,” I hear you whimper.

Here are a few reasons why video is one of the best options for you to communicate:

Create procedures fast

Standard operating procedures (SOPs) are typically written using numbered steps and screenshots. Compared to recording a video – whether it’s a face to camera style, or a screen capture – these written documents are fiddly and time-consuming.

Inexpensive

Gone are the days when creating a video required you to lash out on expensive equipment and software.

Most computers, tablets and phones have quality, built in webcams making it very simple to record videos.

Tools like Jing or even Skype for Business can get you started with.

Show and tell

We know that it’s easier to learn a kettle bell swing technique by watching it,

or making latte art by watching a barista at work, rather than trying to read a long winded instruction manual.

Sometimes the best way to learn something is to be shown.

It is also super useful for role-plays and interactions, recording your team so you can play it back, evaluate and improve.

Explain it once for training and new staff

By recording a video to explain a training exercise or technique, you can save time and energy, and also help keep your message consistent.

When a new staff member joins your team, you’ll find creating videos for the time-intensive handover and training process can be a lifesaver.

Having this information, and building a training library that is constantly available for team members makes for efficient processes.

Communicate big ideas and important information

Whether it’s a story that shares your company’s culture, any changes, or updates, video can help you communicate that information in an engaging way.
